I had a (very) minor medical issue this morning so I arrived 2 minutes after the #FOSSY keynote began.
Fun part is I walked in just as The GOAT #Fediverse person, @evan, was listing his long résumé — his work is essential & a catalyst in many ways to what we now have in #ActivityPub, Fediverse, & #Mastodon.
I am so excited that #FediCon is cohosted with #FOSSY26 and I very much hope that continues for many years to come.
👏👏👏👏
On this panel @evan who just said on the #Fediverse panel at #FOSSY26 : “This may not be a popular thing to say at #FOSSY, but we have to welcome proprietary implementations of #ActivityPub.
You'll be surprised I applauded loudest.
This is a principle that Social Workers call “meet your client where they are”. You can't help them if you *never* meet them.
Early #USENET erred badly because it was a computer geek monoculture. We must not be that here.
👏👏👏👏

I can barely even parse that, but it seems that this individual is saying they will block any proprietary #ActivityPub implementations that attempt to connect to hispagatos.space.
You're prerogative of course, but such creates echo chambers.
😲…I was aware @evan (as I do) receives vitriol here, but I'm disturbed to return from #FOSSY26 & see trolling of Evan's comments on #FOSSY #Fediverse keynote panel — particularly a false accusation that @evanprodromou ignores the mandate of informed consent.
I never saw Evan quote a “no quotes allowed” post, dox someone, or make PMs public. If he did such, bring receipts or STFU.
(I also independently investigated false accusations against his posting bots in past, BTW.)

FWIW, I don't believe “accept any proprietary implementation of any possible protocol” is a moral imperative, but rather should be examined as a tactical issue for each situation.
I this case, as I said upthread, the “meet them where they are” imperative applies in this case and we should welcome all.
I hope Fediverse/ActivityPub because the true global Free Speech forum for all (equally) someday.

I will take a brief moment for a little background and then Mute this convo completely
I've been on Mastodon seven days a week since November 2022 and follow all major hashtags
I'm also on Github and follow Evan's w3c -- activitypub repository there, and get emailed notifications of all activity
So I might just see a tad bit more of our Evan than the casual Fediverse user, and read more of what he says and how he seems to think
So...
...yeah
And enough said about all that

You just gave vague accusations of bad behavior designed to cast doubt against someone's character. Cruel & inappropriate.
Public figures like me & @evan SHOULD be held accountable for our actions & statements, & *even* be held to a higher standard than folks who aren't public figures.
But, as I said up thread: *receipts are required*.
Hearsay is acceptable. You've not even given that.
Instead, you just argued “I've been here longer than all you” & mic dropped. 🙄

Seems you misunderstand what “royal we” is.
Ipso facto it's not “royal we” by Evan b/c (a) most of the (large) room applauded, (b) the other panelists all agreed with @evan, & (c) *I* publicly posted I agreed too.
& #ActivityPub tech lets *you* block everyone who doesn't agree with you. Echo chambers *are* supported!
