I've seen a few people trying to defend Bambu Lab's bullying of an open source developer over completely legal AGPL code use...

Now @conservancy is raising funds to stop companies like Bambu Labs from abusing the AGPL and open source devs: https://sfconservancy.org/news/2026/may/18/bambu-studio-3d-printer-agpl-violation-response/

SFC announced today a multi-pronged, comprehensive initiative to deal with Bambu Lab's AGPLv3 copyleft violations, and with software right to repair for 3D printer users generally.

https://sfconservancy.org/news/2026/may/18/bambu-studio-3d-printer-agpl-violation-response/

The initial plan includes forks, reverse engineering, and further investigation. As always, litigation remains a last resort.

SFC's policy fellow, @bkuhn, just posted a relevant-to-current-events article entitled “Dealing with Incomplete Copyleft Source That Doesn't Correspond”.

With the recent news about Bambu Studio's AGPL violations, this advice on how to handle a protracted period of “incomplete-ccs” from a vendor is very much needed.

One of the fantastic tracks we're hosting at #FOSSY this year is the "Toolchain and Other Developer Tools". If you have used any of the incredible projects hosted at @sourceware or myriad other #FOSS compilers, debuggers, or editors then you should think about giving a talk in Vancouver this August!

We want to hear from you whether you are a first time speaker, veteran of the circuit, or someone who isn't even a professional software developer. Software being made by everyone is one of the best things about #FOSS :)

Submit to the CFP by May 22: https://2026.fossy.ca/call-for-proposals/

Join #SFC in 10 minutes for a 1-hour video chat discussion about how the #FOSS community should respond to the ever-rising popularity of #LLM-backed generative #AI code assistant systems.

The FCC effectively banned all new routers from being sold in the U.S. last week. We've analyzed the situation and have some good news for #OpenWrt, and the #OpenWrtOne! We also discuss how security actually works, and what we're doing to make sure that OpenWrt continues to lead on that front. Check it out at https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2026/apr/02/fcc-router-ban/

Today we join various other FOSS advocacy groups like @fsfe @fdroidorg @eff in addressing an open letter to Google about #keepandroidopen We need open ecosystems and the move to "sideload" software has set a bad paradigm for having control over our devices. You can read more about it here:

https://sfconservancy.org/news/2026/feb/24/keep-android-open/

Not sure where asked for feedback about their developer verification program, but they surely didn't talk with devs, civil society, privacy organisations or their users

did since September, and interacted with folks in the Fediverse, forum, email and in person

They all voiced one opinion: "developer verification must be stopped"

@marcprux has written an open letter, signed by likeminded organisations who want to

Click: https://f-droid.org/2026/02/24/open-letter-opposing-developer-verification.html

We have published an open letter to Google opposing the Android Developer Verification Program with over 30 organizations as signatories: https://keepandroidopen.org/open-letter/
