SFC welcomes applicants for travel stipends to attend the trial in Santa Ana, Orange County, CA, USA from September 22–30, 2025. The application process is competitive & applications are due by THU 2025-07-31 at 23:59:59 AoE.
Successful applicants should have some experience communicating publicly about FOSS policy.

SFC Files Updated Motion for Summary Adjudication in Vizio Case
SFC announced that we recently filed an updated Motion for Summary Adjudication
(similar to a Motion for Partial Summary Judgement in USA federal courts):

The motion asks the judge to summarily rule that SFC has a right as a third-party beneficiary under
the popular copyleft licenses — GPLv2 & LGPLv2.1.

@conservancy is announcing today our relaunch of the copyleft-next project! To commemorate the anniversary of other pivotal copyleft endeavors, such as GPLv3 18 years ago and GPLv2 34 (!!) years ago. This is a visionary project to build what copyleft can be now in 2025.

Thanks, @downey, for noting the dire need of/for @osuosl. #SoftwareFreedom @conservancy (where I work) helps #FOSS projects w/ nonprofit infrastructure. We don't need to offer server hosting *b/c* OSU OSL exists. SFC projects like @inkscape & others rely *every day* on Lance & his team.
What's more, Lance is training the next generation of FOSS system infrastructure engineers — slowly becoming a lost art to proprietariness since the knowledge is increasingly locked in big hosting companies.

The Call for Proposals for @conservancy's #FOSSY Conference, held at Portland State University from Jul 31 to Aug 3, 2025, is open thru May 5.
The conference has a "FOSS for Education" track covering #OpenSource software and broader open initiatives, such as #OER, #OpenScience, etc.
Even if you can't make it, please share. The organizers are working hard to grow the event and provide a forum for open developers to meet peers and collaborate.
